Corepack's Removal from Node.js

Corepack 3,816 shipped inside Node.js 2,131 from version 14.19 and 16.9 as an experimental feature that was never enabled by default. In March 2025, Node's Technical Steering Committee voted to stop distributing it from Node.js 25 onward; Node 24 and earlier keep it. The official Linux tarballs show the change.

Node.js 26, due to become the LTS line in October 2026, has no corepack. On Node 25 and later, install it as an ordinary package: npm 2,036 install -g corepack && corepack enable. The TSC cited limited adoption and the benefit of letting Corepack evolve outside Node's release cycle. Put that line in Dockerfiles and CI images now, even on Node 24, and the move to Node 26 changes nothing.
