A custom resource lets a stack call your own code, a Lambda 24 function or an SNS topic's subscriber, as if it were one more resource type, created, updated and deleted in dependency order. BookNest's use is ordinary: a new catalog table should start with the six books in it, and no AWS 24 resource type puts items in a table.
