Nothing in Laravel 2,157 is beyond plain PHP: every feature is readable code in vendor/laravel/framework, much of it built on Symfony 6,093 components (Symfony). What you gain is decisions already made, about where a route lives, how a schema change reaches every developer's database and how a failed job is retried.

The price is a vendor/ directory of 127 packages, 76 of them outside the dev tools, and a framework boot on every request, which php artisan optimize and OPcache make cheap but not free.
