Laminas and Mezzio

Laminas (github.com/laminas (https://github.com/laminas 29 ), BSD-3-Clause) is Zend Framework renamed and handed to the Linux Foundation, where a technical steering committee runs it. It is a library of standalone components (forms, validators, the service manager, the PSR-7 implementation laminas-diactoros), and you may run one already: CodeIgniter 23,248 's esc() helper is built on laminas/laminas-escaper.

Its full-stack Laminas MVC is retiring. Active development stopped in June 2025, and in March 2026 the committee set the end: security fixes only until 31 December 2028, when PHP 8.4 leaves security support, and no support for PHP 8.5. Composer 5,243 enforces that here:

The recommended successor is Mezzio (github.com/mezzio/mezzio (https://github.com/mezzio/mezzio 397 ), BSD-3-Clause), a PSR-15 middleware framework with a swappable router and any PSR-11 container. Mezzio 3.28.1 (10 June 2026) supports PHP 8.2 to 8.5 and installed here, with FastRoute, Diactoros and the service manager, as 20 packages in 4.4 MB. It suits enterprise APIs where every layer must be a replaceable PHP-FIG 23,464 standard.
