Links

The number of internal links to a page indicates its importance relative to the other pages on the site. Internal links from authoritative pages on the same domain have a stronger effect than pages with no or low PageRank.

A recent industry study suggests linking out to authority sites helps send trust signals to Google. According to The Hillop Algorithm, Google may consider the content of the pages you link to. For example, if you have a page about cars that links to movie-related pages, this may tell Google that your page is about the movie Cars, not the automobile.

Having too many broken links on a page maybe a hint of a neglected or abandoned site. The Google Rater Guidelines Document says Google uses broken links as a means to assess quality. It also states that“Some pages have way, way too many links, obscuring the page and distracting from the Main Content.”Too many dofollow OBLs (Outbound Links) can “leak” PageRank, hurting the rankings of that page.
