Special Significance
Links to a site's homepage may be weighted more heavily than links to the other pages of the site.
Google probably gives more weight to links from “real sites” than those from fake blogs, using brand and user-interaction signals to distinguish between the two. Google's Link Schemes page lists “excessive link exchanging” as a link scheme to avoid.
Having many comments on a page signifies quality. One Googler said comments can help “a lot” with rankings. Although links from guest posts may still pass some value, they probably aren't as significant as true editorial links. Furthermore, “large-scale” guest posting can get your site into trouble. Apparently, Google has significantly devalued links from forums.
Even though Google+ has been dead, sites added into the Google Plus Circles still seem to be ranked higher.
