Trino 403,499 (github.com/trinodb/trino (https://github.com/trinodb/trino 13,296 ), Apache-2.0, release 483 on 18 Jul 2026), the community fork of Presto, is a distributed SQL engine without storage of its own: a coordinator plans queries and workers pull data through connectors (Iceberg 129 , Delta Lake 237,929 , Hive 129 , PostgreSQL 1,289 , MySQL 524 , Kafka 129 , Elasticsearch and dozens more), so one query can join a lakehouse table with an operational database. It pipelines data through memory rather than writing shuffles to disk, which makes it fast for interactive analytics and less tolerant of very long, memory-hungry jobs (its fault-tolerant execution mode addresses that). Starburst 155,289 sells the commercial distribution, and Amazon Athena 24 is built on Trino. Trino is not run here for the benchmark because it is a cluster service; Query Engines on the Lakehouse runs it against BookNest's Iceberg tables.
