Git 2.55

Git 1,932 ships a feature release every ten to twelve weeks, after three release candidates. Git 2.55.0 was tagged on 29 June 2026; 2.56.0 reached its second candidate on 22 September. Ask your copy how it was built:

SHA1_DC is the collision-detecting SHA-1 Git adopted after the 2017 SHAttered attack (SHA-1 Names). files and sha1 are the two defaults Git 3.0 will change (Reftable and SHA-256 Transition), and from 2.55 parts of Git are built from Rust by default, on the way to Rust becoming mandatory in 3.0.
