XPath 3.1 added two kinds of item, the map (map { "a": 1 }) and the array ([1, 2]), which together model any JSON value. Their functions live in the map: and array: namespaces, the lookup operator ? reads both ($m?title, $a?2, $a?*), and the JSON functions convert between three forms:
