Installing Docker Engine

On Linux you install Docker Engine 514 itself from Docker 514 's apt repository. Ubuntu 26.04 225 's archive has its own builds, but they trail upstream: docker.io 29.1.3, docker-compose-v2 2.40.3 and docker-buildx 0.30.1, against Docker's 29.8.1, v5.5.1 and 0.37.1. This machine already runs Engine 29.8.1 installed from Docker's repository, so the listings show the official steps and the state they leave behind.
