GitHub Copilot 29 completes code, chats, reviews pull requests, and runs as an agent that turns an issue into a pull request. Since 1 June 2026 every plan is billed in GitHub 29 AI Credits: each chat, review or agent session costs credits according to the model and the tokens it uses, and a plan's fee includes a monthly amount of credits. Code completions and next-edit suggestions consume none. Copilot was not used on this book's account, so nothing here is run.

Paid plans can buy credits beyond the included amount at each model's API rate, capped by budgets. Since the same day, Copilot code review also consumes Actions minutes (Runner Pricing). Open alternatives such as Continue (https://github.com/continuedev/continue 36,050 ) (Apache-2.0) plug local or hosted models into VS Code 550 and JetBrains, trading GitHub's integration for control over where your code goes.
