Argo CD Versus Flux

Both graduated CNCF projects (Argo 126 in December 2022, Flux 213,041 in November 2022), both Apache-2.0, and both render plain YAML, Kustomize 547,809 and Helm 29,435 . They differ in shape more than in power:

Argo CD 126 and Flux compared (versions of September 2026)
Aspect Argo CD 3.5.3 Flux 2.9.5
Unit of deployment Application (source + destination) GitRepository + Kustomization or HelmRelease
User interface Web UI and argocd CLI built in flux CLI; Web UI via the Flux Operator (AGPL-3.0)
Multi-tenancy Projects, SSO and its own RBAC Kubernetes 5,150 RBAC and namespaces only
Helm Renders charts itself (helm template) helm-controller runs real Helm releases
Components 7 Pods; about 300 MiB idle here 4 controllers, 6 with image automation

Choose Argo CD when people need to see and operate deployments: its UI shows every object's sync and health state, and projects fence teams off. Choose Flux for small controllers driven purely by Kubernetes objects and RBAC, or when Helm releases must behave exactly as helm upgrade does. BookNest uses Argo CD for its UI.
