Tailwind CSS v4 5,202 is designed for modern browsers only. Its core features are built on cascade layers, registered custom properties (@property) and color-mix(), so it targets:

Since v4.1, fallbacks keep pages usable in older browsers, though colors, shadows or gradients may differ slightly.
If you must support older browsers, stay on v3.4 (npm 2,036 tag v3-lts, currently 3.4.19). Utilities such as field-sizing-content compile fine but work only where the browser supports the underlying CSS. And v4 is not designed for use with Sass 22,539 , Less or Stylus 433,552 : Tailwind now handles imports, nesting and variables itself.
