A featured snippet shows a passage from a page above its link. Google's documentation is blunt about requesting one: "How can I mark my page as a featured snippet? You can't." Its systems choose passages that answer the query, so clear headings that match questions, followed by a direct answer in the first sentence or a short list or table, give them good candidates; claims that length, HTTPS or authority decide selection come from vendor studies, not Google. Clicking a snippet scrolls the visitor to the quoted passage. To opt out, use nosnippet (all snippets), a low max-snippet (no guarantee) or data-nosnippet on specific text; nosnippet and max-snippet also limit use in AI Overviews (AI Overviews).
