Good interviews now resemble the work. Instead of whiteboard puzzles, candidates fix a bug in a small repository, build a component from a mockup, or pair with an engineer on a realistic task. Decide in advance whether AI assistants are allowed and tell candidates; either way, asking them to explain and extend their own code shows real understanding.
