Scripted Pipeline, the original syntax (Declarative 1.0 arrived in February 2017), is plain Groovy calling Pipeline steps, run by the same CPS engine as Declarative (Surviving Restarts). It has no fixed structure and no up-front validation, and in exchange anything Groovy can express is allowed.
