Jetpack Compose 234 , stable since July 2021, draws Android UI with Kotlin functions instead of XML layouts. After React Native the idea is familiar: a screen is a function of its data, and the framework works out what to redraw. This section builds BookNest's first native screen on a copy of the Project Anatomy project (Compose BOM 2026.09.00: Compose 1.12.1, Material 3 1.4.0 15,533 ) and shows what the compiler does to each function.
