Every release build of an Android app passes through R8 234 , the compiler that turns Java bytecode into dex and, when enabled, removes what the app never uses, rewrites what remains to run faster and renames it to short meaningless names. It is why a Compose 234 app fits in a few megabytes, and why a release build can fail in ways the debug build never did.
