scene.pick(x, y, predicate) unprojects the screen point into a world-space ray from the camera (Ray Casting built the same ray by hand) and intersects it with every pickable, visible, enabled mesh: first bounding spheres and boxes, then triangles, and returns a PickingInfo. Picking the third book of ActionManager's shelf at its projected screen position:
const viewport = camera.viewport.toGlobal(view.clientWidth, view.clientHeight); // CSS px
const center = books[2].getBoundingInfo().boundingBox.centerWorld;
const screen = BABYLON.Vector3.Project(center, BABYLON.Matrix.Identity(),
scene.getTransformMatrix(), viewport); // world point -> pixel
const hit = scene.pick(screen.x, screen.y, (mesh) => mesh.name.startsWith('book'));
console.log(`at (${screen.x.toFixed(0)}, ${screen.y.toFixed(0)}): ${hit.pickedMesh.name}, ` +
`${hit.distance.toFixed(3)} m, face ${hit.faceId}, normal ${hit.getNormal(true)}`);
console.log(`point ${hit.pickedPoint}, "${hit.pickedMesh.metadata.title}"`);Output
at (159, 92): book3, 1.522 m, face 2, normal {X: 0 Y: 0 Z: -1}
point {X: -0.008622696229745434 Y: 1.2786718173462983 Z: 2.620000019073486}, "Salt and Saffron"scene.pick takes CSS pixels, not render pixels (they differ on high-density screens). scene.pickWithRay takes a ray of your own, mesh.isPickable = false hides a mesh from picks (as useEnvironment does for the skybox), and GPUPicker (Color Picking's color-coded picking) avoids the per-triangle cost for huge scenes.
