Ranges and Falloff

Light Ranges, Falloff and Exclusion

With the default falloffType (Light.FALLOFF_DEFAULT), StandardMaterial fades a point or spot light linearly to zero at range (infinite by default), while PBR materials use the inverse-square law and ignore range, so a lamp tuned on paint looks dim on a PBR cover. FALLOFF_PHYSICAL, FALLOFF_GLTF (inverse-square cut off at range) and FALLOFF_STANDARD force one model. Exclusion lists limit which meshes a light touches:

A reading lamp limited by range and by an inclusion listJavaScript
const left = BookNestStore.createBookcase(scene, 'bookcaseLeft', -1.8);
const books = BookNestStore.placeBooks(scene, left);
const lamp = new BABYLON.PointLight('lamp', new BABYLON.Vector3(-1.2, 2.3, 1.4), scene);
lamp.range = 5;                                       // StandardMaterial: dark beyond 5 m
lamp.includedOnlyMeshes = [left, ...books]; // the bookcase and its books only
const floor = scene.getMeshByName('floor');
scene.getLightByName('sky').excludedMeshes.push(floor); // no sky fill on the floor
console.log(`lamp: book1 ${lamp.canAffectMesh(books[0])}, floor ${lamp.canAffectMesh(floor)}`);
Output
lamp: book1 true, floor false

The checks run on the CPU and also free light slots: after a render, the floor's lightSources list was empty, while each book's held the sky and the lamp.
