Freezing

Freezing Materials, World Matrices and Active Meshes

When nothing changes, stop checking: material.freeze() skips per-frame material checks (unfreeze() after edits), mesh.freezeWorldMatrix() keeps the world matrix, and scene.freezeActiveMeshes() culls once until unfreezeActiveMeshes(). Added to the listing's ways before its loop:

Freezing the thousand clonesJavaScript
ways.frozen = (box) => {
  ways.meshes(box);
  box.material.freeze();                                   // no per-frame material checks
  for (const mesh of box.getScene().meshes) mesh.freezeWorldMatrix(); // static transforms
  box.getScene().freezeActiveMeshes(); // cull once, not every frame
};
Output
frozen: 1004 draw calls, 1004 active meshes, 3.26 ms per frame

Freezing cut a third of the clones' frame time, but their thousand draw calls remain. scene.performancePriority = BABYLON.ScenePerformancePriority.Intermediate applies such settings wholesale (materials freeze when ready, meshes stay active, pointer-move picking stops); Aggressive also stops bounding-info updates, breaking picking on moved meshes.

A thousand cloned books with materials, world matrices and the active-mesh list frozen or live, timed per frameHTMLLive
