npm 2,036 's download API and GitHub 29 's repository API measure both projects the same way, and neither needs a key:
for p in cordova cordova-android @capacitor/core @capacitor/android; do
curl -s "https://api.npmjs.org/downloads/point/last-month/$p" |
jq -r '[.package, .downloads] | @tsv'
done | column -t
for r in apache/cordova-android apache/cordova-ios ionic-team/capacitor; do
curl -s "https://api.github.com/repos/$r" |
jq -r '[.full_name, .stargazers_count, .open_issues_count, .pushed_at[:10]] | @tsv'
done | column -tcordova 211022 cordova-android 212164 @capacitor/core 15904679 @capacitor/android 11985518 apache/cordova-android 3788 95 2026-09-18 apache/cordova-ios 2221 56 2026-09-23 ionic-team/capacitor 16724 133 2026-09-24
Run on 25 September 2026, the window is the 30 days to 21 September. @capacitor/core drew 75 times the downloads of the Cordova 129 CLI, and @capacitor/android 56 times those of cordova-android; Capacitor 243,123 's repository has 4.4 times the stars, and the columns after the stars are open issues plus pull requests and the last push. Downloads also count CI servers and reinstalls, and stars measure attention, not quality, but the direction is plain and matches what SDK vendors do (Mobiscroll and Instabug). Cordova is not abandoned either: all three repositories had commits in the last week, and 212,000 monthly downloads of cordova-android are an installed base the Apache team keeps current with each year's Android target.
