Writing and running an app on your own device with a Personal Team is free. Everything in Certificates and Profiles and App Store Review, from distribution certificates to TestFlight 10 and the App Store 10 , requires the Apple Developer Program, which costs US$99 a year, shown in local currency where you enroll. If the membership lapses, your apps are removed from sale.

An individual enrolls with an Apple Account that has two-factor authentication. An organization needs a D-U-N-S number from Dun & Bradstreet (government bodies excepted), a website and a work email on its domain, so start early. Nonprofits, accredited schools and government entities that sell nothing through their apps can apply for a fee waiver; individuals cannot.
