iOS Requires a Mac: Xcode, Simulator and What This Book Can and Cannot Build

Cordova 129 's iOS guide is blunt: Apple's tools for building iOS apps run only on macOS. The compiler, the iOS SDK, code signing and the iOS Simulator all ship inside Xcode 10 , and the current release, Xcode 27, requires macOS Tahoe 26.6 or later. cordova-ios 8.1.1 needs Xcode 15 or newer, Node.js 20.17 2,131 or newer, CocoaPods 1.16 66,002 or newer for plugins with native pods, and optionally ios-deploy for installing on a cable-connected iPhone; its apps run on iOS 13 and later. On a Mac, the preparation is xcode-select --install, then brew 6,457 install cocoapods ios-deploy, then cordova platform add ios and cordova build ios in the project (not run here).

The machine that produced this book has no Mac, so the rule throughout is simple. Every Android example is built, installed on an emulator and screenshotted for real. Every iOS step comes from Apple's and Cordova's current documentation and is marked not run here, with no output block. The iOS Platform covers the iOS platform, signing and App Store Connect 10 on that basis, and Safari Web Inspector for iOS covers Safari 10 's Web Inspector 10 . A rented cloud Mac can fill the gap, and publishing to the App Store 10 also needs a paid Apple Developer Program membership (Apple Developer Fee).
