Framework7 572,986 is an open-source HTML, CSS and JavaScript framework for apps that look like iOS or Android apps. You write ordinary markup with its class names (navbar, list, page), and it supplies the rest: a router with native-style transitions, swipe-back and more than 60 components. At startup it adds a theme class, ios or md, to the <html> element, and the theme-specific CSS is scoped under that class. The figure shows BookNest's catalog page captured twice from its Vite 25,978 dev server, with only the theme option changed.
The result is a web page: it runs in a browser, installs as a Progressive Web App (PWA), or ships to the app stores inside Cordova 129 or Capacitor 243,123 .
Vladimir Kharlampidi, who also wrote the Swiper 135,050 slider, started the repository in February 2014; the early releases imitated iOS only. Version 1.2 (July 2015) added a Material theme, version 2 (December 2017) a new router and an ES-module package, and by version 3 (July 2018) the Vue 5,482 and React 7,897 bindings lived in the main repository. Version 4.2 (March 2019) added Aurora, a desktop theme, 5.4 (January 2020) added Svelte 36,701 , and version 6 (December 2020) dropped the Template7 651 engine and added a built-in Store. Version 8 (April
rebuilt the Material theme around Material You 15,533 and removed Aurora, so tutorials that set
theme: 'aurora' are out of date (Why Aurora Was Retired). Version 9 (November 2025) restyled every component for iOS 26, added Vibrant and Monochrome color schemes, and moved the bindings to React 19 and Svelte 5.
