Text elements (Text Elements) describe words inside a sentence. The elements in this section describe larger units that a reader takes in at a glance: a list of steps, a gauge, a grid of numbers, a photograph, a video. Some are grouping content (<ol>, <ul>, <dl>, <figure>), some are tabular (<table> and its parts), and some are embedded content (<img>, <picture>, <video>, <audio>, <object>, <embed>), which pulls an external resource into the page.
Embedded content is where most page weight lives, so this section goes further than markup. The <canvas> element also embeds content, but it is an empty drawing surface controlled entirely from JavaScript; it is covered with the other graphics APIs in Graphics APIs Overview. To save space, the listings here omit the optional <head>, <body> and </html> tags, which the parser supplies (Anatomy of an HTML Document).
